Ever wanted to try a new outdoor activity but didn't know where to start? First Try Collective makes it easy. This new program invites residents to learn the basics of activities like roller skating, disc golf, hiking, and more in Pittsburgh's parks. With beginner-friendly instruction and welcoming environments, participants can explore new hobbies, stay active, and experience the amazing recreational assets available across our RAD parks. Learn to Roller Skate

This new program invites residents to learn the basics of roller skating at Schenley Park Skating Rink. With beginner-friendly instruction in a welcoming environment, participants will build foundational skating skills, stay active, and experience one of Pittsburgh’s premier skating facilities.

Lessons will be offered on three dates throughout the summer, with registration capped at 25 participants per session.

Learn to Play Disc Golf

This new program invites residents to learn the basics of disc golf at Schenley Park. With beginner-friendly instruction and a welcoming environment, participants will build foundational skills while staying active and experiencing the recently upgraded Schenley Park Disc Golf Course.

Lessons will be offered on three dates throughout the summer, with registration caps varying by session.

Intro to Hiking

These Ranger-led programs invite residents to participate in guided hikes, including an introduction to Frick Park trails, a birding-focused hike, and an ages 50+ focused excursion.

Hikes will be offered on three dates throughout the summer, with varying start times, locations, and registration caps depending on the session.

Intro to Yoga

This new program invites residents to learn the basics of yoga at Grandview Park. Featuring beginner-friendly, accessibility-focused instruction, participants will build foundational yoga skills while staying active and enjoying scenic views of Downtown Pittsburgh from the Grandview Park Bandstand.

Lessons will be offered on three dates throughout the summer, with registration capped at 20 participants per session.

First Try punch cards will be distributed at all events. Participants can use this card to track their participation throughout the summer. Anyone who completes three First Try Collective events will receive free ice cream from Millie’s Ice Cream during Outdoors for All Day at Allegheny Commons on Saturday, August 15. Additional raffle incentives will be available for select activity collections, including biking, mindfulness, and ecosystem exploration.
