THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH TO RESURFACE A PORTION OF THREE RIVERS HERITAGE TRAIL

Updated Timeline on Three Rivers Heritage Trail Resurfacing Project

Pittsburgh, PA – The City of Pittsburgh is pleased to announce the commencement of work on the Three Rivers Heritage Trail South Side segment between the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex Football Training Center and Becks Run Road/Baldwin Borough segment, to resurface the trail, and remove roots causing the trail surface to buckle and improve drainage.

Milling of the trail started on Monday, November 3, 2025, and is expected to finish today, Tuesday, November 4, weather permitting. Paving will last only one day and will take place on Wednesday November 5. The trail will be closed entirely between the project extents for the duration of the project. Work hours for both milling and paving will be 7 am - 5 pm, although work is subject to weather delays, as needed.

There is no on-street detour although Friends of the Riverfront and the Great Allegheny Passage Conservancy will provide a shuttle with bicycle racks during the entirety of the closure.

“Our partnership with DCNR and Friends of the Riverfront is about more than fixing the trail surface, it’s about investing in spaces that connect people to one another and to our rivers,” said Department of Mobility and Infrastructure Assistant Director Angela Martinez. “This section of trail in particular is highly traveled and has been in need for resurfacing for quite some time. We appreciate the funding and support of our partners to improve the safety, accessibility, and the overall trail experience for everyone who enjoys Pittsburgh’s riverfronts.”

The project is funded in part by a Department of Conservation and National Resources (DCNR) Grant.
