Pittsburgh, PA – Today, City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works crews are reporting moderate successes under arduous conditions after some neighborhoods in the city received 7 to 9 inches of snow, double the originally forecasted 3 to 6 inches. Crews have treated all main streets and some secondary streets; however, most areas will require additional treatment.
As of this afternoon, additional trucks have been dispatched to neighborhoods that received significant snowfall. Main roads, residential streets, and alleyways will continue to be treated throughout the day. Overnight operations were challenged by the rapid rate of snowfall, which required crews to rely on plowing in lieu of salt application.
“I am extremely proud of the hard work of by the Public Works crew who, despite the odds, battled nearly twice the amount of snow we originally expected,” said Chris Hornstein, Director of the Department of Public Works.
Crews will continue working around the clock through 6AM on Monday, December 15. Regular shifts will begin Monday morning, and winter weather operations will continue as conditions require.
