Police Investigate After Deceased Infant Found in Vehicle

Published on October 24, 2025

At approximately 8:20 p.m., Pittsburgh Police from Zone 1 received information from Ohio Township Police that a female from that borough had arrived at a Pittsburgh hospital after having given birth to a baby, but without a baby in her possession. The female then left the hospital against the advice of doctors.
When she was questioned about the infant's whereabouts, Ohio Township officers were led to a vehicle parked in the 1400 block of Federal Street. Inside the trunk of the vehicle they were shown the body of an infant found wrapped in clothing and placed in a plastic bag. Medics pronounced the infant deceased at the scene.
Pittsburgh Police Mobile Crime and Violent Crime Unit detectives were then called to Federal St. and to a residence in the 100 block of Marshall Ave. where the female was also known to spend time.
Detectives located evidence that a baby had likely been recently born in the residence.
The female is currently being treated at the hospital and will be transported to police headquarters for questioning once she is medically cleared. The Medical Examiner's Office took possession of the infant's body and will work to determine cause and manner of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
