UPDATE: Police Find Child Wandering Alone in Duquesne Heights

UPDATE: The child's mother has been located and is with her daughter at the hospital. The child was in the care of a young babysitter at the time this occurred. The investigation shows she somehow opened the door and slipped out of the house in the middle of the night. When her mother came to pick her up in the morning, the child was missing and 9-1-1 was called. No charges are anticipated at this time.

Original incident details:

Pittsburgh Police received a 9-1-1 call at about 4 a.m. for a little girl, approximately three years of age, spotted walking alone outside in Duquesne Heights. Citywide units immediately searched the area and a sergeant discovered the child at approximately 4:50 a.m. in the 100 block of Oneida Street.

The toddler was wearing a t-shirt and it is unknown how long she was exposed to the elements.

Pittsburgh EMS responded to the scene to evaluate the child for cold exposure and vomiting. She was transported to the hospital with hypothermia in serious, but stable condition. The girl was alert and speaking later at the hospital.

Police are searching for the parents or guardians and the investigation is ongoing.
