Date: August 20, 2024 Incident Type: Critical incident Location: Zone 3 Summary:
Just before 12:45 p.m., a Pittsburgh Police officer was injured when the suspect of in multiple burglaries struck him with a vehicle when police approached him in the area of Althea Street and Altamont Way in Zone 3.
Upon striking the officer, shots were fired and the suspect vehicle fled toward Saw Mill Run Blvd.
Pittsburgh EMS transported the officer to the hospital with a laceration to his head and a possible fractured ankle. He is currently in stable condition.
The suspect, William Skinner, 36, of Pittsburgh, was taken into custody near the railroad tracks in the area of S. 9th Street and P.J. McCardle Roadway at 1:48 p.m. He was not injured.
Allegheny County Police will be handling the investigation into the critical incident and any subsequent crimes committed before the suspect was eventually taken into custody.
