Shapiro Administration Invests $3 Million in Mayor O’Connor’s Vision for a Greener, More Walkable Downtown
Pittsburgh, PA –The City of Pittsburgh will receive $3 million from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to renovate the Boulevard of the Allies in the Central Business District, advancing Mayor Corey O’Connor’s vision to create a greener, more welcoming connection through Downtown.
The Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) plans to use the investment to advance a tree-lined median through the heart of Downtown, connecting Grant Street to Stanwix Street and Point State Park. The improvements will bring more greenery to the corridor while creating a more inviting environment for people walking, visiting Downtown and patronizing local businesses.
“Thank you to Governor Shapiro and Secretary Carroll for this $3 million investment in Pittsburgh,” said Mayor Corey O’Connor. “A tree-lined median connecting Grant Street to Point State Park and focusing on the details will help turn the Boulevard of the Allies into a true grand Downtown boulevard — one that is greener, more welcoming and better for pedestrians, visitors and the small businesses along the way.”
The $3 million award is one of two Multimodal Transportation Fund investments awarded to the City of Pittsburgh this year. The Commonwealth also awarded the City $739,007 to upgrade and expand the overhead lane use control system on the North Shore.
