Saturday, November 8th, Curbside Yard Debris Collection
Pittsburgh, PA – City of Pittsburgh residents are encouraged to place their yard debris (e.g., branches, leaves, pumpkins, grass) at the curb before 6 AM on Saturday, November 8, 2025, for collection.
Yard debris that does not follow these guidelines will be left at the curb.
- Yard debris must be placed at your typical trash/recycling pick-up spot before 6:00 a.m. on the Saturday collection day.
- Yard debris must be placed in brown paper bags and cannot weigh more than 35 pounds.
- Branches must be less than 5 feet in length, less than 4 inches in diameter, and must be bundled with natural fiber twine or rope - no plastic cords or metal wire.
Accepted yard debris:
- Leaves
- Branches (smaller than 5 feet in length / 4 inches in diameter)
- Brush
- Grass
- Pumpkins
Waste that will not be collected:
- Plastic bags
- Metal or wire
- Rocks, blocks, bricks, and ceramics
- Dirt or gravel
- Glass, metal, or plastic
The goal of this event is to reduce the amount of valuable natural resources from entering the landfills. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection estimates that 40% of what goes in the landfill is compostable. The City’s bi-annual yard debris events are just some of the ways the City helps to prevent compostable material from entering the landfill. Yard debris collected from this event will be used to produce local compost. A portion of the compost produced will be used to enrich landscapes throughout the city.
“We’re proud to offer this program to support residents in keeping our neighborhoods clean and green. It’s an easy, responsible way to manage yard waste while protecting the environment we all share,” said Bureau of Environmental Services Superintendent Shawn Wigle.
