Tax Compliance Letters
Before issuing a Tax Compliance Letter, the Tax Compliance team will carry out the following checks on an account:
- The Entity is registered for Business Taxes with the City of Pittsburgh, if required
- Tax filings have all been submitted including any principal due
- Any missed filings will be required to be submitted before a Tax Compliance Letter is issued.
- Entity holds a current Certificate of Insurance naming the City of Pittsburgh (412 Blvd of the Allies, PLI, Floor 3, Pittsburgh PA 15219) as additional insured.
- Include a copy of your current COI with your request
- The Department of Finance DOES NOT review your COI for compliance with the PLI requirements as to coverage amounts and types. Further checks will be carried out by PLI during your application process. Acceptance by Finance of your COI does not constitute final approval for the purpose of your license/permit.
- Entity name and address match across COI and Departmental records
- Your Tax Compliance Letter, when issued, will match the name the Finance Department has on file. Any name changes will need to be processed with IRS documentation, and will take additional processing time. Please ensure the name on your COI matches your legal name.
To request a Tax Compliance Letter, send an email to taxcompliance@pittsburghpa.gov with the following information / attachments:
- A copy of your current Certificate of Insurance naming the City of Pittsburgh as additional insured
- Your Company name and City ID
If your tax filings are up to date, you can expect to receive a Compliance Letter via email within 3 business days.
If you are missing filings, or there are irregularities with your company name or insurance documents, certification can take longer. You will receive emailed instructions from a Tax Compliance team member on how to resolve your account within 3 business days.
During the course of your application, any items sent to our office by surface mail must be sent to the attention of the specific agent assisting you. Documents in the general processing queue cannot be retrieved, and will await regular processing. This will cause significant delays to the issuance of your compliance letter.
