Pittsburgh — The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire held a promotions ceremony in Council Chambers as six members of the bureau advanced to the next stage in their careers.
Firefighters Sean Meckling and Franklin Trabucco were promoted to lieutenant.
Lieutenants Michael Cowan (not in attendance), Charles Lewis, and Dominic Piccola became captains.
Captain Sean Griffin was promoted to the rank of battalion chief.
Chief of Fire Darryl Jones opened the ceremony by emphasizing the professionalism and hard work that each of the six promotees regularly exhibit.
”Promotions within the Fire Bureau are not just merely about titles or positions, they are about recognizing the tireless efforts and unwavering dedication of individuals who have consistently gone above and beyond in the call of duty. I challenge you to remember that your experience with the public—how competent you are, how much empathy you show, how much you care—is how they will forever more remember our bureau.”
Public Safety Director Lee Schmidt spoke about the responsibility that comes with leadership.
“This promotion is much more than just a pay raise. It’s a commitment to be a leader. A commitment to be held accountable. And a commitment to grow and help new leaders come forward. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to upholding values, protecting the innocent, and serving the public--it has not gone unnoticed.”
Before administering the Oath of Office, Mayor Ed Gainey thanked the friends and family of the promotes for helping each of them reach this important milestone in their careers.
“Without you and your strong love, these folks wouldn’t be here today. Thank you.”
The entire Department of Public Safety congratulates all of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire promotees and heartily thanks them for their service to the City of Pittsburgh.
