UPDATE/CORRECTION: The child was four years old at the time of the incident, rather than three as initially reported. We apologize for the error.
Original post:
At approximately 7:30 p.m., Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Zone 2 officers responded to the 700 block of Anaheim Street in the Upper Hill neighborhood for a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.
Preliminary information indicates that a 3-year-old boy ran into the street, mid-block, and was subsequently struck by a vehicle. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with officers. There were no signs that the driver was under the influence at the time of the collision.
The child was transported by Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS to a local hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Collision Investigation Unit responded to the scene and is conducting an active investigation.
In the upcoming weeks, the City's Vision Zero Fatal Crash Response Team, which includes the Pittsburgh Police Collision Investigation Unit, will complete a site visit to evaluate potential crash factors. Following the site visit, additional updates will be made available on the Vision Zero Working Group's Engage Page.
