At approximately 7:15 a.m., the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire responded to a one-alarm structure fire in the 100 block of Conover Road, located in the Point Breeze neighborhood.

Firefighters rescued a dog from the residence. The animal was transported by medics to an emergency veterinary clinic for smoke inhalation. No residents were home at the time of the incident.

The kitchen sustained significant damage, while other areas of the home were affected by heat and smoke. The resident made alternative arrangements for shelter.

The Fire Investigation Unit determined the fire began when the dog attempted to reach food placed on top of the stove and accidentally turned on a burner.
