At approximately 8:30 a.m., Pittsburgh Police from Zone 5 were called to the 1200 block of Pineridge Street in the city’s Homewood North neighborhood for reports of a disturbance with an adult male trying to gain entry to a residence.
The male was known to officers as having outstanding warrants, in addition to known mental health concerns. When officers arrived to the scene, the male actor was inside the home and he began making threats against them, as well as threats of self-harm.
Just after 9:30 a.m., after the male barricaded himself in the residence, a SWAT callout was initiated.
Approximately an hour later, the actor ignited a fire inside of the structure, which was quickly extinguished by Pittsburgh Fire.
Social workers with the city’s Office of Community Health and Safety responded to the scene, and together with SWAT negotiators were able to convince the male to surrender without further incident.
He was taken into custody just before 12:00 p.m.
He was transported by Pittsburgh EMS to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Upon release, he will be taken to the Allegheny County Jail. Additional charges are forthcoming.
