Just before 1:00 p.m., Pittsburgh Police from the Downtown Public Safety Center and Zone 2 were dispatched to Liberty Avenue at 11th Street for a report of several males fighting.

Officers arriving to the scene observed two males restraining a third male and were informed that the male being restrained had recently stolen a box truck.

The victim, the owner of the box truck, stated to officers that he was making a delivery to a business in the 900 block of Penn Avenue. After he made the delivery and was exiting the business, he observed his truck driving away.

The victim ran after the truck and was able to catch it when it stopped at a red traffic light at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and Grant Street. The vehicle owner then opened the passenger door and entered the vehicle. An altercation ensued between the male actor and the victim.

In an attempt to flee the scene, the actor maneuvered the box truck over the median in the center of the street, drove onto the adjacent sidewalk—striking several planted trees—and nearly hitting a nearby pedestrian.

The vehicle owner was eventually able to take control of the steering wheel and engage the emergency brake causing the box truck to come to rest on 11th Street near Liberty Avenue. The victim, with the assistance of another male, were then able to restrain the male until officers arrived.

The male actor was taken to a nearby hospital for medical clearance. A warrant was applied for and charges are forthcoming.
