At approximately 2:00 a.m., Pittsburgh Fire was dispatched to the 6600 block of Apple Street in the city’s Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar neighborhood for reports of a residential structure fire.

Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke coming from all three floors of the structure.

An adult female occupant of the home was able to escape the residence and told crews that an adult male occupant was still inside. Firefighters located the male victim a short time later in an upstairs rear bedroom. Unfortunately, the male was unconscious and was declared deceased at the scene.

The female victim was transported by Pittsburgh EMS to an area hospital for smoke inhalation. She was last listed in stable condition.

The fire was called under control at approximately 2:45 a.m.

At the time of this writing, it is believed the fire started near the front of the structure on the ground floor. Fire Investigation Unit detectives are working to determine the exact cause.
