Summary:

Violence Prevention Unit (VPU) detectives working patrols in Zone 2 and Zone 5 made two firearms-related arrests over the weekend.

While conducting an ongoing investigation, detectives observed a known male carrying a firearm in his pocket on Chauncey Drive. Police conducted a traffic stop after watching him drive from the area. One firearm was obtained during the stop and a search warrant ultimately conducted on the vehicle resulted in the recovery of pistol magazines, rifle ammunition, and cell phones. Javon Embry, 28, was arrested and charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Persons Not to Possess, and vehicle and traffic violations.

He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail.

Following a recent non-fatal shooting in Homewood, detectives were conducting a patrol of the neighborhood when they observed a male walking near the intersection of Felicia Way and Sterrett Street with what appeared to be a gun protruding from his t-shirt. When detectives approached him to ask whether he had a concealed carry permit, he stated he did not have it with him. Upon further investigation, it was confirmed that the male did not possess a valid concealed carry permit. Detectives recovered a firearm with an extended magazine from his person.

Isaiah Beatty, 29, was arrested and charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a License. He was transported to the ACJ without incident.
