UPDATE 3: Police Investigate Homicide in Elliott Neighborhood

Summary:

UPDATE 3: Logan Smetanka was arrested in Greensburg PA by the Greensburg Police Department. Smetanka was processed in Greensburg and then transported to the Westmoreland County Jail where he will be extradited to Allegheny County to be arraigned on charges of Homicide and Criminal Conspiracy to commit the homicide of Marc Kovach.

There are no outstanding suspects in this case and all three actors have been taken into custody.

UPDATE: Violent Crime Unit detectives have made a second arrest in this case. Carlena Wells, 18, was arrested in the Uptown area of the city on May 9, 2024 and charged with Criminal Homicide and Criminal Conspiracy. She was transported to the Allegheny County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: Detectives arrested Dominic Johnson, 19, and charged him with Criminal Homicide and Tampering with Evidence. Johnson was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

Original incident details:

At 11:53 a.m., Pittsburgh Police Violent Crime Division detectives were dispatched to the 100 block of Steuben Street for reports of a male found unresponsive outside a vacant residence.

Detectives located a 37-year-old male near the front of the house down some steps that were not visible to the street. The victim had suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced deceased by medics.

The Mobile Crime Unit processed evidence at the scene.

The victim's identity will be released by the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner.

The investigation is ongoing.
