Published on June 08, 2024
Date: June 8, 2024
Incident Type: Rescue
Location: Zone 2
Summary:
At approximately, 11:30 a.m., Pittsburgh Police, Fire, EMS, and Emergency Management personnel were alerted to an emergency on the hillside below Frank Curto Park off of Bigelow Blvd.
Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call from employees at the Audi dealership located on Liberty Avenue in the Strip District stating that they heard someone screaming from the hill above the store.
Arriving units located a female in her 30s who had likely fallen from the concrete retaining wall she was sitting on. The distance is approximately forty feet from where she was located. It's not known exactly how long she was there before someone called for help.
EMS Rescue 1 and 2, Pittsburgh Fire Truck 6, and Zone 2 Pittsburgh Police officers devised a rope rescue plan to descend the rough terrain to reach her, stabilize her, and hoist her to safety in a Stokes basket.
Two Pittsburgh Police officers and three medics descended the hill to reach her and Pittsburgh Fire's 6 Truck was used as a high purchase point to raise the patient above the wall to safety.
Emergency Management and Homeland Security personnel aided with the rope evolution and on scene support for first responders.
The female was conscious and mildly alert when Pittsburgh EMS transported her to the hospital in stable condition.
Excellent teamwork by all of our Public Safety Bureaus in rescuing the patient and lifting her to safety!
