Police, Fire, EMS respond to vehicle-bicyclist crash on Fort Duquesne

Summary:

Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS were dispatched at approximately 2:00 a.m. for a vehicle versus bicyclist collision at Fort Duquesne Boulevard and Ninth Street.

A passenger vehicle was travelling from the Northside on the Ninth Street/Rachel Carson Bridge. It was attempting to continue straight onto Ninth Street with a green light when it collided with an electric bike.

The electric bike, operated by an adult male, was heading eastbound on Fort Duquesne Boulevard and failed to stop at the red light. The cyclist collided with the side of the vehicle. He was not wearing a helmet.

The bicyclist was transported by Pittsburgh EMS in critical condition to an area hospital.

The adult male driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene and was cooperative with officers. There were no reported injuries to the driver or any of the three passengers in the vehicle.

Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating. The investigation is ongoing.
