Police Arrest Two, Recover Firearms and Stolen Vehicle on South Side

Summary:

Just before 2:15 a.m. on June 17, 2024, Pittsburgh Police Violence Prevention Unit detectives on patrol in the area of Wright's Way heard a gunshot in an adjacent parking lot at Wright's Way and S. 18th.

Upon arrival, detectives observed four people actively fighting and numerous others running from the area. They were detained and questioned at the scene.

Further investigation and review of city camera footage resulted in the arrest of Rayshan Hammond, 30, of Penn Hills. A stolen firearm was recovered from underneath a vehicle.

Hammond is charged with Aggravated Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Persons Not to Possess, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Receiving Stolen Property, Disorderly Conduct, and Prohibited Acts.

Just before 2:45 a.m , detectives observed another male return to a vehicle in a parking lot at Wright's Way and S. 18th where officers had earlier spotted a firearm with a Glock switch protruding from underneath the driver's seat.

The vehicle was reported stolen out of Detroit, MI.

Andre Yates, 24, was arrested and charged with Persons Not to Possess, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Receiving Stolen Property, and Prohibited Acts.
