At approximately 11:15 a.m, firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 3900 block of Mintwood Street.
The response grew to 2-alarms and the sole occupant of the home, a male in his 70s, was able to get himself out of the house safely before firefighters arrived. Medics transported him to the hospital with a small burn to his hand. He will also be evaluated for possible smoke inhalation.
The Fire Investigation Unit found that the fire originated in a bathroom in the house with a natural gas-powered space heater that had caught fire.
The house is not habitable and the American Red Cross has been notified to assist the displaced resident.
The cause is determined to be accidental at this time.
