Date: July 2, 2024 Incident Type: Fire Location: Ingram Summary:
On Monday, July 1, 2024, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire was dispatched to 18 Leslie Street in Ingram just before 10:45 p.m. for a reported residential structure fire.
The first arriving crews reported heavy smoke on the third floor of the structure. They made contact with the resident who stated her son was trapped on the third floor of the residence. The child, an 11-year-old male, called his mother on her cell phone from his cell phone. He stated he was in a low closet area on the third floor.
Pittsburgh Fire Battalion Chief Becker, who was in command of the fire, asked if the child could yell so that firefighters could hear him. His mother said he could not.
BC Becker then told the mother to tell the child to bang on the wall so that firefighters could hear him.
The crew from 31-Engine made their way to the third floor where they located the child in a small storage closet area.
He was conscious and alert. Firefighters extricated him from the structure to awaiting medics for evaluation.
Excellent work by all!
