Officers Respond to Theft and Assault Downtown

Summary:
Just before 11:00 p.m. on September 17, 2024, Downtown Public Safety Center officers responded to a report that a female had been assaulted and her purse was stolen in the 500 block of Market Street.
Responding units were informed by the victim that she was attacked by several juveniles who had been following her. Officers located one juvenile female on Liberty Avenue and 5th Avenue. The victim was able to positively identify the juvenile as one of the assailants.
A short time later, Officers detained a second juvenile female at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and 5th Avenue. The victim’s purse was not located.
Police transported the victim, who sustained minor injuries, to the hospital in stable condition.
The two juveniles were charged with simple assault, riot, disorderly conduct, and harassment.
An investigation is ongoing as officers work to identify others involved in this incident.
