Fire, EMS, Police Respond to Crash Near Waterworks; One Critical

Summary:

Just before 4:30 a.m., Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS were dispatched to the 900 block of Freeport Road for reports of vehicle collision involving a medic unit.

A Lower Kiski ambulance, out of Armstrong County, had been transporting an adult female patient to nearby St. Margaret Hospital when it crossed the centerline and struck a guardrail.

An adult female medic in the rear of the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt when the collision happened. She sustained head injuries, facial trauma, and was initially unresponsive. She was transported by Pittsburgh EMS in critical condition.

Neither the patient nor the adult male driver reported any injuries as a result of the collision.

The Collision Investigation Unit responded to the scene and Freeport Road was closed while the investigation occurred. It reopened just after 6:00 a.m.
