PITTSBURGH BRACES FOR POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT ICE STORM WITH POTENTIAL DISRUPTIONS
Pittsburgh, PA – The City of Pittsburgh is monitoring an overnight ice storm expected to move through the region, bringing potentially hazardous conditions to certain areas. While Pittsburgh itself may not experience significant ice accumulation, some areas surrounding the city could see up to a quarter to four-tenths of an inch of ice, making travel conditions dangerous.
"We understand it might get a little icy overnight. Public Works has your street covered; we have plenty of salt and trucks ready to go. If you are out traveling in the rain, please be aware that the weather can change pretty quick from rain to ice. So go slow and be safe out there." - Chris Hornstein, Director, Department of Public Works.
The ice storm is expected to arrive late tonight, with the highest likelihood of icy conditions between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. While temperatures will gradually increase, icy conditions may persist into the early morning hours. Although school delays are not expected within Pittsburgh, widespread delays and cancellations are likely in nearby areas such as the Laurel Highlands, the Ridges, and along I-80.
As always, the Department of Public Works and local emergency services are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to prepare for potential disruptions and avoid non-essential travel during the overnight hours.
