Mayor Corey O’Connor Signs New Zoning Ordinance Banning Vape Shops in Neighborhood Business Districts
Pittsburgh, PA – This morning, Mayor Corey O’Connor signed a new zoning ordinance that bans new vape shops, smoke shops or similar retailers in local neighborhood commercial districts.
The ordinance promotes neighborhood quality of life, community health and promotes diverse and vibrant business districts. It will regulate and limit retailers that primarily sell tobacco, e-cigarettes, vapes, smoking accessories and certain cannabinoid products.
Mayor O’Connor was joined in the ceremonial bill signing by City Councilman Bobby Wilson (District 1), Councilperson Bob Charland (District 3), Council President Daniel Lavelle (District 6) and Councilperson Erika Strassburger (District 8), who sponsored the legislation. Former Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith of District 2 was also a sponsor of the bill.
The ordinance is now in effect with regulation by the Department of City Planning Zoning Division and the Department of Permits, Licenses and Inspections.
