Earlier this evening, a shooting occurred Downtown that left two individuals hospitalized and many residents concerned. We are deeply thankful to report that both victims are currently in stable condition and are keeping them, and their loved ones, in our thoughts and prayers.
No one wants to see violence of any kind in our neighborhoods, especially acts that put lives at risk. Let me be clear: there is no place for this kind of behavior in our city. I want to express my sincere gratitude to our first responders—our EMS personnel and Pittsburgh Police—whose swift and professional actions helped ensure lives were saved and the situation was quickly brought under control.
Isolated incidents of violence are tragic, but do not define a neighborhood or City. Like many areas across the country, we face challenges,—but we are meeting them head-on. My administration is fully committed to investing in public safety, mental health resources, community partnerships, and long-term strategies to reduce violence and build trust.
Pittsburgh remains resilient, united, and committed to ensuring that every neighborhood, including our Downtown, is a place where people feel safe, supported, and can enjoy all our City has to offer. ~Mayor Ed Gainey
