MAYOR ED GAINEY RELEASES 2025 VISION ZERO MEMORANDUM
Annual Update Highlights Progress Toward Eliminating Traffic Fatalities
Pittsburgh, PA – In a continued effort to eliminate traffic fatalities, Mayor Ed Gainey, along with the Vision Zero Intergovernmental Working Group, has released the 2025 Vision Zero Memorandum, showcasing the City’s significant progress toward safer streets. This effort is crucial in protecting Pittsburgh’s residents and visitors, aiming to make every street safer for all road users.
In March 2024, under the leadership of Mayor Gainey and Councilmember Warwick, Pittsburgh formally endorsed Vision Zero as a citywide strategy to improve traffic safety and eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injury crashes. As part of this commitment, the City established an Intergovernmental Working Group to coordinate efforts across agencies and address the root causes of traffic fatalities.
Since launching in April 2024, the Vision Zero Intergovernmental Working Group has met quarterly, bringing together leadership from:
The Mayor’s Office
City Council
The Department of Mobility and Infrastructure
The Department of Public Works
The Law Department
The Office of Management and Budget
The Department of City Planning
The Department of Public Safety and Pittsburgh Bureau of Police
The Department of Innovation and Performance
Allegheny County
Pittsburgh Parking Authority
Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
Pittsburgh Regional Transit
Residents are encouraged to read the full 2025 Vision Zero Memorandum and get involved in the ongoing conversation about traffic safety. Visit the Vision Zero Engage Page for more information and to access the memorandum, which will also be presented at the City Council Post Agenda on April 8th at 1:30 pm.
