City of Pittsburgh Refuse Collection and Facility Closures for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 19 

Pittsburgh, PA –The City of Pittsburgh offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and refuse collection will be delayed one day.   

 

ADJUSTED REFUSE COLLECTION SCHEDULE 

On Monday, January 19, 2026, there will not be refuse, bulk waste and recycling collection (if this is your scheduled recycling week). 

The schedule shall proceed as follows; 

If your scheduled day of collection is Monday, January 19, you will be serviced Tuesday, January 20, 2026. 

If your scheduled day of collection is Tuesday, January 20, you will be serviced Wednesday, January 21, 2026. 

If your scheduled day of collection is Wednesday, January 21, you will be serviced Thursday, January 22, 2026. 

If your scheduled day of collection is Thursday, January 22, you will be serviced Friday, January 23, 2026. 

If your scheduled day of collection is Friday, January 23, you will be serviced Saturday, January 24, 2026. 

Residents with questions about collection can contact the Department of Public Works Bureau of Environmental Services at 412-255-2773. 

 

PARK FACILITY CLOSURES 

CitiParks will have the following closures/schedule:  

HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING SENIOR CENTERS  

  • CLOSED —Monday, January 19, 2026 
  • Regular operations resume on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 

 

RECREATION CENTERS  

  • CLOSED — Saturday, January 17 through Monday, January 19, 2026 
  • Regular operations resume on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 

 

 AFTER-SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM  

  • In conjunction with the PPS Schedule, the After-School Feeding Program (CACFP) will not be in operation on Monday, January 19, Thursday, January 22, and Friday, January 23, 2026.  Normal operations will resume on Monday, January 26, 2026.  

 

 MELLON PARK TENNIS BUBBLE  

  • Open—7 AM to 10 PM on Monday, January 19, 2026 

 

 sCHENLEY PARK SKATING RINK  

  • Open—Public Skating Session:  4 to 5:30 PM on Monday, January 19, 2026 

 

WARMING CENTERS WILL BE ACTIVATED TUESDAY, JANUARY 20 

In anticipation of colder temperatures forecasted on Tuesday, January 20, CitiParks will activate five Healthy Active Living Centers as warming centers from 8 AM to 7 PM. The following centers will be open as warming stations:  

  • Beechview Healthy Active Living Community Center | 1555 Broadway Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15216  
  • Greenfield Healthy Active Living Community Center | 745 Greenfield Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15217  
  • Homewood Healthy Active Living Community Center | 7321 Frankstown Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15208  
  • Sheraden Healthy Active Living Community Center | 720 Sherwood Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15204  
  • South Side Market House Healthy Active Living Community Center | 12th & Bingham Streets, Pittsburgh, PA 15203  

 

CitiParks and the City of Pittsburgh typically activate warming centers when the forecasted highs are predicted to be 20 degrees or lower.
