City of Pittsburgh Launches Interactive Funding Award Thermometer Showcasing $882 Million In State & Federal Funding Received Through Gainey Administration’s Commitment to Equity, Growth, and Neighborhood Investment

Pittsburgh, PA – The City of Pittsburgh unveiled a new interactive dashboard – the Funding Award Thermometer – designed to spotlight the impactful investments the Gainey Administration has helped secure across Pittsburgh neighborhoods. The dashboard provides the public with transparent data that clearly show the $882 Million in funding awards from federal, state, and county government sources that have been received either directly by the City or by community organizations.

Since 2022, Mayor Gainey has prioritized equity-focused investments that improve housing access, infrastructure, public safety, mobility, and economic opportunity for all Pittsburghers. The dashboard tracks this progress in real time, highlighting projects that have been officially awarded funding and categorizing them by focus area.

“This tool tells the story of our city’s progress,” said Mayor Ed Gainey. “Whether it’s affordable housing, infrastructure upgrades, or public safety, these investments are the result of our administration’s deep commitment to working in partnership with communities. Every dollar reflects the kind of city we’re building together — a city that is safer, stronger, and more equitable for all. Together, we’re building a Pittsburgh where progress is shared — and everyone has a stake in the future.”

Dashboard Highlights:

The data include funding from two broad types of projects:

  • Direct City Awards include funds directly granted to the City of Pittsburgh or its agencies after official notification from government partners.
  • Community Projects Supported by Mayor Gainey reflect Mayor Gainey’s proactive leadership through letters of support and advocacy efforts that helped secure funding for local organizations.

The thermometer-style visual tool allows the public to explore funding by five key categories:

  • Housing: Affordable housing initiatives, with a focus on projects for residents at or below 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) for homeownership and 50% AMI for rentals.
  • Infrastructure: Critical facilities and systems that keep the city running.
  • Community & Economic Development: Efforts to uplift neighborhoods, grow small businesses, and increase job opportunities.
  • Mobility: Investments that expand access to safe, efficient, and modern transit networks.
  • Public Safety: Programs and services that protect and serve Pittsburgh residents, from EMS and fire services to violence prevention.

Transparency & Accountability

The tool ensures transparency for residents, showcasing projects such as multimodal grants, Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project (RACP) awards, and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) initiatives. It does not include funding received before 2022, philanthropic, or private-sector contributions, such as private sector matching funds for the downtown revitalization package.
