UPDATE: Pittsburgh Animal Care & Control officers located the dog involved in the incident on 4/20/25 in Mt. Oliver. The officers confirmed with the homeowners that it was the same dog in question. The homeowners have surrendered the animal to the Humane Animal Rescue.

Just after 1:30 p.m., Pittsburgh Police from Zone 3 and Pittsburgh EMS responded to a reported dog attack in the 200 block of Moore Avenue in Knoxville.
Homeowners called 911 after their dog bit a 2-year-old boy inside the residence. Officers spoke with witnesses at the scene, who described the dog as food-aggressive. According to initial reports, the child may have approached the dog’s food bowl prior to the attack. As adults intervened and attempted to pull the dog away, it escaped and ran out of the home.
The child sustained serious facial injuries and was transported to the hospital by Pittsburgh EMS paramedics in stable condition.
Officers, along with Animal Care & Control, conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the dog. The dog is described as a 2-year-old gray pit bull and is believed to be in the Knoxville area.
