Published on March 31, 2025

On March 14, 2025, Pittsburgh Police officers from Zone 2 were dispatched to the 200 block of 48th Street for reports of cars drag racing in the parking lot of a business.
Upon arrival, officers observed approximately 50 to 60 vehicles in the parking lot engaged in various illegal activities to include street racing, reckless driving, careless driving, and trespassing.
The individuals began running to their vehicles and leaving the parking lot when officers activated emergency lights and sirens. One vehicle fled at a high rate of speed toward a large grass field in an effort to get away. Officers initiated a traffic stop due to reckless driving. Upon speaking with the driver, officers learned he had an expired driver's license and expired registration for the vehicle.
He was informed he would be receiving a traffic citation and that his vehicle would be towed. With body cameras activated, officers conducted an inventory search of the vehicle prior to towing, to ensure any valuables inside were documented. After a large bag of marijuana was found under the driver's seat, officers stopped the inventory and applied for a search warrant. The search warrant turned up several items, including a stolen firearm.
William Bey, 23, of Pittsburgh faces charges of Receiving Stolen Property, Persons not to Possess, Prohibited Acts, and vehicle violations.
