Published on December 12, 2025
At approximately 10:20 p.m., Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS were dispatched to the 4700 block of Friendship Avenue for reports of a structure fire.
Residents in the house stated to firefighters and officers that they were on the first and third floors of the home when they heard the fire alarm on the second floor. When they investigated, they found flames and heavy smoke in one of the second-floor bedrooms.
All occupants were able to safely evacuate the structure and no injuries were reported.
The cause of this fire has been determined to be accidental in nature as one of the residents stated they left multiple candles burning in the room where the fire originated.
A short time later, just after 11:00 p.m., responders were dispatched to a second structure fire a few blocks away in the 4900 block of Friendship Avenue.
This fire started in a first-floor apartment.
Four police officers suffered smoke inhalation as they attempted to evacuate residents on the second and third floors of the building. All four officers were transported by Pittsburgh EMS in stable condition and all four were released from the hospital by 2:00 a.m. Friday morning.
The occupant of the first-floor apartment was transported by Pittsburgh EMS in stable condition for medical evaluation.
While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, it has been determined that it originated near the stove in the kitchen of the first-floor apartment.
Fire Investigation Unit detectives are continuing to investigate.
