Summary:

Pittsburgh Police Violence Prevention Unit detectives on regular patrol in the city recently made two firearms-related arrests in Zone 3.

During a traffic stop at Arlington Avenue and Lillian Street on May 15, 2024, detectives determined the driver to be in possession of a firearm illegally. Dalaun Samuels was arrested without incident and charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a License.

Police recovered a Glock 40 pistol with a loaded magazine and one loose bullet.

On that same day, VPU detectives driving in the 1100 block of Brownsville Road in Carrick encountered a juvenile male walking on the street who they believed to be carrying a firearm in a crossbody bag.

When they identified themselves as Pittsburgh Police detectives, the male ran from them. Following a brief foot pursuit, the juvenile was taken into custody. Officers recovered a 9mm pistol, a small amount of marijuana, and nearly $500 cash from his bag.

Per juvenile probation, the 17-year-old was to be placed on electronic monitoring and released to the custody of a guardian.
