Original post:
Just before 10:30 a.m., Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS responded to Liberty Avenue at Stanwix Street in Downtown for a reported semi-truck versus bicyclist collision.
A Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus and a semi-truck (a semi-cab with a flatbed attached) were stopped side-by-side at a red light on Liberty Avenue. They were both heading inbound. The PRT bus was in the far-right lane and the truck was in the adjacent lane.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicles were given a green light when an adult male cyclist attempted to cross Stanwix Street in front of them. The semi-truck collided with the cyclist.
The cyclist was transported by medics in critical condition to an area hospital where he was immediately taken into surgery.
The adult male driver of the truck stayed on the scene and was cooperative with officers.
The Collision Investigation Unit was called to process the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
