Summary:
Last night's Fourth of July celebrations saw tens of thousands of people gather at Point State Park, the Central Business District, North Shore, Mount Washington, and the West End for the annual Independence Day fireworks display.
After an evening downpour, and brief rain delay, the skies cleared for the show over Point State Park.
The Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS treated a total of twelve patients. Five patients were transported to area hospitals. The majority of those treated were for dizziness, panic attacks, and heat-related symptoms. The transports were for an injured wrist, seizure, abdominal pain, and several falls.
EMS officials also worked throughout the evening to reunite numerous separated parents and children.
Throughout the course of the evening, officers made three arrests and issued thirteen non-traffic citations in the Central Business District to the area outside Point State Park.
One arrest was handled by Juvenile Probation, another was for a firearms violation, and the last was for a felony warrant suspect.
"I would like to thank the Allegheny County Police, Juvenile Probation, Pennsylvania State Police, Port Authority Police, State Park Rangers and everyone in Pittsburgh Public Safety—the Bureaus of Police, Fire, and EMS, Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, and Violence Prevention teams—for the enormous amount of time dedicated to planning and coordinating this event," said Public Safety Director Lee Schmidt. "Our mission was to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors and we were successful in delivering a fun and safe evening of festivities."
