VISION ZERO IMPLEMENTATION: MEADOW STREET TRAFFIC CALMING
Meadow Street to Receive Traffic Calming Measures
Pittsburgh, PA – The City of Pittsburgh is pleased to announce that traffic calming measures will be implemented on Meadow Street in the Larimer neighborhood. This initiative aims to reduce speeding and improve safety for residents by installing various traffic calming elements.
The project will include the construction of four (4) speed tables, along with new parking lane lines, high visibility crosswalks, and stop bars. In addition, permanent signage and pavement markings will be installed to alert motorists of approaching traffic calming elements.
“No one should have to worry about speeding cars when they’re walking to school, crossing the street, or sitting on their porch,” said Mayor Ed Gainey. “This project on Meadow Street is part of our Vision Zero commitment to create safer streets in every neighborhood—beginning with areas where the data shows we need it most,” said Mayor Ed Gainey
This project was selected following a traffic study that revealed 69% of drivers were exceeding the posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour on Meadow Street. The study also recorded a maximum speed of 76 miles per hour—more than twice the speed limit—demonstrating a severe risk to pedestrian safety.
Construction work is tentatively expected to start on Thursday, April 17, 2025, weather permitting. Flaggers will be stationed throughout the work area to manage alternating traffic, and intermittent delays may occur.
The duration of the project is expected to last one (1) day, weather permitting. Hours of construction will be 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Temporary no parking signage will be posted throughout the corridor where work is taking place.
