Pittsburgh, PA – The City of Pittsburgh is honoring Arbor Day and Earth Day with a series of free events over the next two weeks to celebrate Pittsburgh’s sustained dedication to urban forestry, environmental stewardship and community engagement.
Pittsburghers are invited to free community Arbor Day celebrations, which will feature ceremonial tree plantings, DJs, food, tree and other giveaways, vendors, education from the City’s Forestry Division and Park Rangers and activities for kids and families.
The events will be held rain or shine:
- Saturday, April 11 – Robert E. Williams Park, Milwaukee Street, Upper Hill District, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Saturday, April 18 – West End Overlook, Fairview Avenue, Elliot, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Sunday, April 19 – Riverview Park, Observatory Hill, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Saturday, April 25 – Upper Mellon Park, Friends of Mellon Park, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In honor of Arbor Day and Earth Day, the City will proudly fly the Tree City USA flag on Mount Washington from April 20 through April 27.
This year marks the City of Pittsburgh’s 21st consecutive year as a Tree City USA, a national recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation honoring cities committed to caring for and managing public trees.
To maintain its Tree City USA status, the City meets key annual standards, including maintaining a tree management board or Forestry Division, enforcing tree care laws, investing in tree planting and maintenance and celebrating Arbor Day with community events. This long-term commitment helps expand our urban forest, improve air quality, beautify neighborhoods and enhance the quality of life for residents.
