MEDIA ADVISORY
Keeping Pittsburgh Home: Homes for People, Not for Profit
WHO: Mayor Ed Gainey, City of Pittsburgh, Council President R. Daniel LaVelle, District 6 & URA Vice Chair, Alicia Majors, Homeownership Manager, Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), Lena Andrews, CEO, ACTION-Housing
WHAT: Mayor Ed Gainey and City leaders will discuss how they are fighting back on speculative practices, announce new real estate tax relief legislation aimed at protecting longtime homeowners from being pushed out by rising property taxes, and highlight the success of OwnPGH and the Homeowner Assistance Program (HAP) in expanding homeownership access and stabilizing communities.
WHEN: Friday, March 7th, 2025 at 10:10 AM
WHERE: 2 Ridenour Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15205 (Crafton Heights Neighborhood)
WHY: Under Mayor Gainey’s leadership, Pittsburgh is taking bold steps to keep homeownership within reach and prevent displacement. Programs like OwnPGH have already helped over 150 new homeowners, the majority of whom are from communities historically excluded from homeownership. Now, with new tax relief legislation, the City is further strengthening protections for longtime homeowners facing rising property taxes, ensuring that Pittsburgh homes remain in the hands of residents—not speculators.
