City of Pittsburgh Labor Day Closures for Monday, September 7, 2026

Pittsburgh, PA – The City of Pittsburgh’s administrative offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2026 in observance of Labor Day. Additional City facilities and services will be modified on Monday due to the holiday.

DPW Environmental Services Garbage and Recycling Collection

There will be no City of Pittsburgh refuse, recycling or bulk waste collection on Monday, September 7. 

 The collection schedule will proceed as follows: 

  • If your scheduled day of collection is Monday, you will be serviced Tuesday, September 8 
  • If your scheduled day of collection is Tuesday, you will be serviced Wednesday, September 9 
  • If your scheduled day of collection is Wednesday, you will be serviced Thursday, September 10 
  • If your scheduled day of collection is Thursday, you will be serviced Friday, September 11 
  • If your scheduled day of collection is Friday, you will be serviced Saturday, September 12 

Residents can see their scheduled collection days, including holiday schedules, on the annual collection schedule and newsletter. The Strip District recycling drop-off location at 3001 Railroad Street will be open, but all other City recycling drop-off locations will be closed for Labor Day.

CitiParks

The following CitiParks facilities will be closed on Monday:  

  • Recreation Centers 
  • Healthy Active Living (Senior) Centers 
  • Schenley Ice Rink 
  • Mellon Tennis Bubble 

Six pools will be open on Monday for the last day of the season: Bloomfield, Highland, Jack Stack, Magee, Moore and Ream. Each pool will be open from 12:00-1:00 PM for daily Adult Lap Swim and 1:00 – 5:45 PM for daily Family Swim. Spray parks will also be open on Monday.  

Parking Authority

All on-street and off-street Pittsburgh Parking Authority meters will be free on Labor Day. All Pittsburgh Parking Authority parking garages will be programmed for holiday rates on Monday, as well.  

Special Events 

A variety of special events will be happening around the city on Monday, which may include road closures. Those permitted events with road closures include: 

  • RibFest: Art Rooney & General Robinson: 8:00 AM Monday, August 31 – 4:00 PM Tuesday, September 8 
  • Steelers 5K: North Shore Drive at Casino way to Mazeroski Way to General Robinson Street to River Avenue, 6:00 AM – Noon Monday, September 7 
  • Soul Food Fest: Liberty between Commonwealth & Stanwix, Stanwix between Liberty & Boulevard of the Allies, Fourth Avenue between Stanwix & Wood; 9:00 AM Thursday, September 3 – 3:00 AM Monday, September 7 
  • Labor Day Parade: Centre Avenue at Crawford to Sixth to Fifth to Grant to Boulevard of the Allies; 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM Monday, September 7
