City of Pittsburgh Civic Leadership Academy Returns to Promote Understanding, Transparency and Partnership

Pittsburgh, PA – Mayor Corey O’Connor’s Administration has announced the return of the Civic Leadership Academy, a free 10-week course for local residents to learn more about City government directly from leaders of City departments, authorities and bureaus.

Residents can apply for the program, which runs on Wednesdays from 6:00 – 8:00 PM from September through December. Each week, participants will engage in weekly presentations, discussions and site visits with city government leaders who are responsible for all areas of local government, such as:

Controller’s Office

Commission on Human Relations (CHR)

Department of City Planning

Department of Finance

Treasurer

Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI)

Department of Parks and Recreation (CitiParks)

Department of Permits, Licenses and Inspections

Department of Public Safety

Bureau of EMS

Bureau of Fire

Bureau of Police

Office of Community Health and Safety (OCHS)

Department of Public Works

Forestry Division

Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh

Office of Management and Budget (OMB)

Office of Municipal Investigations (OMI)

Pittsburgh Water

Urban Redevelopment Authority

Land Bank

“We are excited to bring back the Civic Leadership Academy because we want to engage our residents and offer them a deeper understanding of city government,” said Mayor O’Connor. “This is an important program for transparency that also empowers community leadership and partnership with our neighborhoods.”

Civic Leadership Academy is an opportunity for residents to better understand how government operates and how to productively engage with the City of Pittsburgh. This allows participants to be ambassadors for their communities during and after the course and strengthen the relationship between city government and neighborhoods.

Applications can be submitted from now until 11:59 PM on Friday, August 21, 2026. Participation is limited and applicants must be residents of the City of Pittsburgh OR operate a business, non-profit or do community impact work within city limits. Applications are available here.
