CITY OF PITTSBURGH ANNOUNCES WAMO DAY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY'S FINALE JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION
Pittsburgh, PA – The City of Pittsburgh, Mayor Ed Gainey, and CitiParks Office of Special Events are proud to announce WAMO DAY, a special event marking the finale of the City’s Juneteenth Celebration. WAMO 107.3 made history in Pittsburgh on June 19, 1993, by hosting Pittsburgh’s first organized Juneteenth celebration – WAMO DAY. This year, the City is honored to join WAMO in celebrating over three decades of cultural leadership and community engagement.
The City of Pittsburgh remains committed to fostering equity and inclusion through diverse events and programming. In that spirit, the CitiParks Office of Special Events is honored to collaborate with WAMO 107.3 in presenting this vibrant celebration of Pittsburgh’s African American community, highlighting its rich artisic and cultural contributions.
WAMO DAY will feature a dynamic lineup of performances including Rojoinferno, Graffiti Rue, and grand finale artist BIRD. Visual artist Cue Perry will lead a CommUnity Live Painting session, offering attendees an interactive art experience throughout the day.
As part of the festivities, Mayor Ed Gainey will present keys to the City to several distinguished African American leaders in recognition of their lasting impact and contributions to the city.
