CITY OF PITTSBURGH’S DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS PREPARES AHEAD OF UPCOMING WINTER WEATHER EVENT
Pittsburgh, PA – In an abundance of caution due to the potential incoming inclement weather, the City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Works is beginning to prepare for winter weather tomorrow, Thursday, January 16, during morning rush hour. Pittsburgh is expected to get anywhere from 1 to 2 inches starting just before 8 am. Residents should exercise caution and prepare for a slightly longer commute.
During this time, residents are asked to avoid parking vehicles on the streets (if possible) to aid in the swift treatment of Pittsburgh roadways. Priority will be given to streets that allow access to hospitals, emergency routes, and public safety facilities.
“As we prepare for this winter weather, I want to recognize our Public Works crews for their tireless efforts to keep Pittsburgh’s streets safe and passable,” said Mayor Ed Gainey. “These workers are out in challenging conditions, often overnight, to ensure our city stays moving. I ask all residents to exercise patience and understanding as they do this essential work. Together, we can navigate these winter challenges safely and with care for one another.”
Residents should be aware that it takes 24 hours after the snow has stopped to treat all city streets. However, if their street has not been cleared within 24 hours after the snow has stopped, residents should contact 3-1-1.
