Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Holds Promotion Ceremony for New Lieutenants and Sergeants
Pittsburgh, PA – Family, friends, and colleagues gathered at the Special Deployment Division building on August 27, 2024 for a Pittsburgh Bureau of Police promotion ceremony.
Eleven officers were promoted to the rank of sergeant and three sergeants were promoted as lieutenants.
Chief Larry Scirotto addressed the group and acknowledged that they represent some of the Bureau’s most accomplished officers; calling their promotions a testament not only to their hard work, but also as potential leaders with the skills necessary to shape the future of the department.
“You are now coaches, mentors, and the pillars of support for officers under your command. The role of Sergeant or Lieutenant is not just about making decisions or issuing orders, it’s about inspiring those around you. As coaches, your job is to develop the talent of your team,” said Chief Scirotto.
Before Mayor Ed Gainey administered the Oath of Office, Public Safety Director Lee Schmidt thanked friends and family for helping the newly-promoted members reach this milestone in their careers.
“Your support, sacrifices, and understanding have been the bedrock of their success. Your unwavering encouragement provides them with the support they need to succeed in their careers. Without families and their understanding of those late nights and missed holidays, the missed birthdays…these officers would not be the success stories they are today,” said Director Schmidt.
Effective immediately, the newly-promoted sergeants and lieutenants will be assigned to their respective duty locations.
Congratulations to all of the new lieutenants and sergeants who have accepted expanded roles within the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police in service to the City of Pittsburgh!
