Department of Public Safety Prepares for General Election

Pittsburgh, PA – Recognizing that Pennsylvania is considered a battleground state in the upcoming general election, with Allegheny County an area of intense focus for the presidential candidates, the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety is preparing for a busy election week.

Starting Monday, November 4, 2024, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police will have the capacity and discretion to extend officers' shifts to ensure maximum coverage in the city, if needed. As always, the Bureau is working closely with Pittsburgh Fire, EMS, and Emergency Management and Homeland Security to prepare for any contingencies. It should be noted that the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police balances the protection of First Amendment rights to free speech and peaceful assembly, while also preserving public safety. Civil unrest and violence will not be tolerated.

At this time, there is no indication of any emergent threats related to the election. The Bureau's Intelligence Unit will continue to monitor the situation, in conjunction with its local and federal law enforcement partners.
