Police Arrest Male for Reckless Driving on Mount Washington

Published on July 29, 2025

At approximately 8 p.m. on July28, 2025, Pittsburgh Police from Zone 3 were on neighborhood patrol in the Mount Washington area, following multiple community complaints of reckless driving and street racing, when they observed a male on a race-style motorcycle speeding and stunt driving on Grandview Avenue toward Kearsarge Street.

The motorcycle was not registered. Officers attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the driver was moving at such a high rate of speed, they were unable to do so safely. They lost sight of him as he turned onto Wyoming St.
Approximately an hour and a half later, the officers observed the same driver pass them and park his motorcycle in the 300 block of Grandview Avenue.
Police parked in front of the motorcycle and attempted to approach the driver, when he started his motorcycle, accelerated, and struck the open driver's side door of the police vehicle, forcing one officer back into the driver's seat.
A second officer attempted to grab the driver, but he took off, and dumped his vehicle on the ground. He immediately got up and ran from the officer, eventually surrendering a short distance away. He told officers he was not injured and denied medical treatment.
He was transported to the ACJ.
Dominick Kurpakus, 25, faces charges of reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, flight to avoid apprehension,  and multiple vehicle code violations.
