Just after 9:15 p.m., officers were on patrol in and around Market Square when a large fight involving ~ 40-50 juveniles broke out in front of Chipotle. Officers deployed pepper spray to break up the fight and in an effort to clear the crowd. Four officers were also treated for exposure to OC spray.

Several hundred juveniles were estimated to be in Market Square at the time of the fight.

In addition to this incident, officers from Zones 1&2 assisted in breaking up fights among large groups of juveniles throughout the evening.

Due to escalating violence, assaults on police officers, and the confiscation of firearms, a decision was made to clear Market Square. The crowd eventually dissipated at ~ 12:15 a.m., though many juveniles congregated at Triangle Square and a bus stop at Forbes and Wood St., where Port Authority Police continued to break up fights.

Three firearms were recovered.

Five adults were arrested on various charges including aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, carrying a firearm without a license, firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of a controlled substance, and persistent disorderly conduct.

Four juveniles—two females and two males—were cited for disorderly conduct throughout the course of the evening.

There was no chaperone policy in effect at the time of these incidents.
