Firefighters Respond to Fatal Apartment Fire in Brighton Heights

Pittsburgh Fire, EMS, and Police responded to an apartment fire in the 1500 block of Letort St. at 8:15 p.m.
One female victim was extricated from a fifth floor unit in cardiac arrest. First responders performed lifesaving measures, but the victim was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene.
A male suffered a wrist laceration and was treated by medics on site.
The initial fire was extinguished quickly and did not spread to any other units. Firefighters ventilated the building, and the majority of residents will be allowed back inside.
Pittsburgh Emergency Management & Homeland Security officials are working with building management to assist any displaced residents with temporary accommodations.
Fire investigators will work to determine the exact cause of the fire, which appears to be accidental in nature.
