At approximately 3:45 p.m., Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Zone 3 detectives and officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Knox Avenue for a complaint issued by the building's owner.
While there, detectives encountered an adult male with an outstanding warrant. The male fled further into the building on foot and officers pursued. During the pursuit, a dog from the apartment that the suspect fled into escaped and attacked officers. A detective was bitten on his arm and sustained multiple puncture wounds. In response, an officer discharged their firearm and ultimately the dog was pronounced deceased.
Pittsburgh EMS transported the detective to the hospital in stable condition.
The male suspect was taken into custody by officers on scene and was transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
