Animal Care & Control Officers Recover Animals from Westwood Home

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026,  Pittsburgh Animal Care & Control officers and Pittsburgh Police from Zone 6 responded to a home in the 1300 block of Barr Avenue in the Westwood neighborhood of the city, following community concerns of possible animal cruelty.

Responding units attempted to make contact with any occupants, with negative results. They made entry into the home after hearing sounds of distress from animals inside, in addition to a strong odor of urine, feces, and decay.

Once inside, officers removed 11 dogs, two puppies, and one cat. They were taken to Human Animal Rescue. At least two other dogs were found deceased inside.

The house was found in deplorable condition and was unoccupied at the time the animals were recovered.

Plainclothes detectives are investigating. At this time there are no arrests. 

The investigation is ongoing.
